Koneswaram Temple

Perched dramatically on the cliffs of Swami Rock in Trincomalee, Koneswaram Temple is one of Sri Lanka's most spectacular religious landmarks. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is among the country's most revered Hindu shrines and has been an important centre of worship for more than two thousand years. Known in ancient times as the "Temple of a Thousand Pillars," Koneswaram formed part of a renowned Hindu pilgrimage network across South Asia.
