Mihintale

Mihintale is one of the most sacred religious destinations in Sri Lanka and is widely recognised as the birthplace of Buddhism on the island. According to ancient chronicles, it was here in the 3rd century BC that Arahat Mahinda, the son of Emperor Ashoka of India, met King Devanampiya Tissa and introduced the teachings of Lord Buddha.
